SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island State Police said they're looking for a fifth teenager involved in Wednesday's crash on Route 295 in Smithfield that killed two other teens.
According to investigators, Ronald Cullerton, 19, of Bellingham, Mass., was riding in the backseat of the Dodge Stratus that crashed just after midnight near Exit 8. Police said he left the scene of the accident before they arrived on scene.
Police said a woman who had been at the Providence bar where the teens were drinking Tuesday night alerted police that there was a fifth teenager in the group.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Cullerton. They are not saying what charges are filed against him.
Two Massachusetts men who had been in the back seat with Cullerton were pronounced dead at the scene -- Marcello Ventrella, of Bellingham, and Aram J. Pothier, of Blackstone. Both victims were 19.
Police have confirmed the driver of the car was 19-year-old Robert Baez, of Bellingham. He suffered a spinal injury in the accident and is believed to be paralyzed.
According to Baez's mother, her son did not have a driver's license. She also said her son told her he was driving because he was the most sober of the group.
Police have not yet filed charges at the bar where the teens had been drinking.
