CRANSTON, RI - A local dentist is arrested on charges he filed thousands of dollars in false insurance claims.
Police say Doctor David A. Marcantonio, DDS, 49 filed over $33,000 worth of false insurance claims with Delta Dental of Rhode Island.
Former patients of Marcantonio filed complaints to Delta Dental in 2008, alleging poor quality of care received from the dental office. Delta Dental then audited Marcantonio's office. Delta Dental officials say the audit uncovered issues regarding dental exams and treatment of 95 delta members, and revealed a pattern of negligence, fraud, and record keeping violations.
Marcantonio's office is located at 1249 Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston. According to the Rhode Island Department of Health, Marcantonio's license has been suspended.
Marcantonio is facing charges of obtaining money under false pretenses over $550. He's also charged with insurance fraud. He was arraigned, and was released on $25,000 personal recognizance.
