Eyewitness News debuts new iPad app

Version 2.0 provides a unique user experience

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Continuing to build upon its suite of digital offerings , WPRI 12 and Fox Providence announced their new and enhanced iPad app - putting more content, video, breaking alerts and citizen journalism technology at the fingertips of Southern New Englanders, while providing a user-friendly experience customized and optimized for the tablet.

“We are pleased to continue our tradition of bringing innovative products to market and making it more convenient for users to access our superior local content on the most popular electronic devices,” said Jay Howell, WPRI 12/Fox Providence/ myRITV President and General Manager. “Our new iPad app was thoughtfully designed to deliver a best-in-class user experience and be the preferred local news app in the Providence/New Bedford television market.”

Highlights of the WPRI 12 and Fox Providence Version 2.0 iPad app include: 

  • Immediate access to stories and blogs published in real-time from WPRI 12, FoxProvidence, Pinpoint Weather, and The Rhode Show
  • Breaking news alerts to help users stay informed even when the app is closed
  • Extensive weather maps and information, including Tony's Pinpoint Weather Blog at your fingertips
  • Enhanced video presentation in one easy to navigate, comprehensive catalog
  • New “Report It” functionality that leverages iPad’s built-in features, allowing users to easily send and share news, photos and videos
  • Easy sharing of interesting articles via e-mail, Facebook (R) and Twitter (TM)

In October 2010, WPRI 12 and Fox Providence launched its first generation iPad app into the emerging tablet space. Since the launch of the iPad 2, WPRI 12 and Fox Providence have been perfecting their technology to take advantage of the tablet’s increased processing power, photo and video enhancements and new graphics engine.

The app is free of charge. You can easily download the new app by going to the App store on your iPad and searching for " WPRI". Our new app is called " WPRI 12 Eyewitness News for iPad".
