CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- Five people were rushed to the hospital early Saturday morning following a serious head-on collision in Cranston.
The accident happened just before 2 a.m. on Route 10 North, near the Reservoir Avenue exit. Rhode Island State Police tell Eyewitness News an SUV driven by Gail Dion, 52, was headed in the wrong direction on the highway when it hit another vehicle head on.
Four people were in that sedan, and one of them suffered very serious life threatening injuries, according to State Police Lt. Joseph Philbin.
The Cranston Fire Department tells Eyewitness News the victims were taken to the hospital with broken bones and other internal injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. However, State Police say Dion has been charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, serious injury resulting. She remains in the hospital.
