CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - As many Rhode Islanders are on day four without power in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, their neighbors are reaching out to provide some of the comforts often taken for granted.

Shower Facilities & Charging Stations

  • Area YMCAs
    • The YMCA branches in Barrington, Warwick, Cranston, Seekonk and Peace Dale are offering free showers and battery charging to those community members still without power. Photo identification as well as a signed waiver are required. Some branches are offering child care and other activities for families. Click here for more details.
  • East Greenich
    • The Kenneth Cote Renewal Center Salon is also offering assistance. The East Greenwich studio put a message on its Facebook page offering free shampoos for residents without power. Appointments are not needed and walk-ins are welcome.
  • Exeter
    • Exeter's emergency manager announced there would be shower facilities available at Exeter-West Greenwich High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The school is located on Nooseneck Hill Rd.
  • Warwick
    • The American Red Cross is operating a respite center at the Veterans Memorial High School on West Shore Rd. in Warwick. Residents without power will have access to shower facilities, bottled water, snacks, emergency meals and access to electricity.
Residents who plan to use the shower are asked to bring their own towels and toiletries.

Call 2-1-1

In an effort to make sure Southern New Englanders get the help they need, Eyewitness News has partnered with United Way Rhode Island.

Residents who are in need of assistance can dial United Way's 2-1-1 number with any storm-related concerns. Volunteers on the line will provide the latest information on services and assistance available.
