WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) -- One person is dead after a serious two-car crash on Route 3 in West Greenwich.

The crash happened at about 11:15 Saturday morning on Route 3, near a highway overpass.  Sgt. Steven Flood of the Rhode Island State Police said that a Nissan Murano headed North on I-95 took Exit 6 to Route 3.  The Murano then crossed Route 3 and collided with a GMC truck that was headed North on Route 3.

Two people in the Murano were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries.  Three people were in the GMC; the rear-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver and front passenger were also taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Flood said Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash.  Route 3 was closed in both directions from about 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

None of the people involved have been identified pending notification of family members, but the Murano was registered in Pennsylvania, Flood said.
