WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) - The town of West Greenwich has hired Major Richard Ramsey of the West Warwick Police Department as their new chief of police.
West Greenwich Town Administrator Kevin Breene tells Eyewitness News that Ramsey will be sworn in at Wednesday's town council meeting.
Ramsey, who is currently the Deputy Police Chief in West Warwick, replaces Ronald Lepre who retired last year.
Maj. Ramsey was chosen from a field of 37 applicants, which was then cut down to 12.
Ramsey made the top 5 and was then ultimately chosen as the town's next police chief.
Richard Ramsey will oversee a police department of 9 sworn officers.
He starts his new job on August 1.
