WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Two local business owners have organized an event to promote local shopping and boost Rhode Island's economy.
Dr. Timothy Hudyncia and Lea Knepley, LMT, co-founders of the community group 'Let's Buy Local', are inviting all Rhode Islanders to join them in a "cash mob" taking place in Warwick Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
The goal of the event is to provide attendees with a fun local shopping trip, while giving an independent business a much-needed economic surge.
"Cash mobbing" is a growing trend around the country, with organizers trying to pull shoppers away from chain stores and online shopping.
Attendees are asked to bring $20 in spending money. The group will meet at the Route 117 Park & Ride, located next to I-95 Exit 10, then caravan to the announced local business at 5:15 p.m. sharp.
