WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Warwick man is facing numerous charges after police say he buglarized as many as seven homes late last year.
Detectives say 21 year-old Brian Smith was arrested Friday after a three-week investigation into a string of breakins in the city, occurring between November and January.
Officers found him hiding in the closet of his Warwick home and seized thousands of dollars worth of stolen property from the home, including laptop computers, iPads, video game consoles and jewelry.
Smith is charged in connection with at least five and possibly as many as seven house breaks and is currently at the ACI. Some of the stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners but police are still working to contact other victims so they can identify their belongings.
Overall, police say burglaries were down in 2012, with 327 reported as opposed to 359 in 2011.
