WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Hurricane Earl has grounded some flights at T.F. Green and forced Amtrak to cancel some train service.
Southwest has canceled all of its Friday evening flights in and out of T.F. Green . Cape Air also suspended its service for the entire day.
Amtrak has also made changes to trains between New York and Boston. At least one Acela Express train has been canceled.
According to Amtrak's website, overhead electrical system damage from a tree, which fell from outside Amtrak property in Connecticut, and more severe weather forecasted for Friday evening has led Amtrak to suspend all through service between New York and Boston (South Station).
That means there are no trains going into or out of Providence for the rest of Friday. Amtrak said crews are working to clear trees and branches from the tracks. It hopes to have trains running again Saturday.
Passengers are encouraged to call 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for schedule information and train status updates. The latest updates will also be posted on Amtrak's Facebook and Twitter pages.
Governor Carcieri has asked people not to drive Friday night, unless it is absolutely necessary.
"Stay off the roads. It's going to be a lousy night," the governor said during a news conference at the EMA Friday afternoon. He especially emphasized that people should not travel on the interstate, because cars could hydroplane.
With that warning, Peter Pan Bonanza bus service has cancelled several routes for Friday:
*E-Tickets for travel to and from Cape Cod will be accepted for travel on any schedule throughout the holiday weekend.
*The Steamship Authority has cancelled all ferry service from Cape Cod to the Islands for Friday September 3, 2010.
