WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin has announced the winners of the state's third annual cyber security contest.

The Rhode Island Democrat said Wednesday that Adam Sowden from Exeter-West Greenwich Senior High School won for the second straight year. Students at East Greenwich High School and Chariho Career and Technical Center placed second and third.

Sowden is getting a $1,500 check and a $2,000 scholarship offer from New England Institute of Technology.

The Cyber Foundations Competition tests skills in networking, operating systems and system administration and is aimed at sparking interest among students in the field of cyber security.

More than 100 students from eight schools participated.

Langevin launched the event in Rhode Island as part of his efforts to improve the state's workforce development in high-growth industries.
