WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - State transportation officials say a bridge closed for five months after suffering severe damage during last spring's historic floods will be replaced.
The state Department of Transportation says it will replace the century-old Natick Bridge that crosses the Pawtuxet River connecting West Warwick and Warwick, just west of the Rhode Island Mall at a cost of $9 million.
Work on the roughly two-year project could begin next spring. Transportation officials will seek construction bids by January 2012.
The current bridge is about 160 feet long and 33 feet wide, but the new span will be 180 feet long and 46 feet wide.
