WASHINGTON, DC (WPRI) - Warwick, Harrisville, and Cranston Fire Departments received federal funding in an effort to enhance the operations, safety, and resources needed by firefighters to save lives.
U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives James Langevin and David Cicilline announced over $374,000 for the fire departments.
The federal funds were awarded to upgrade the department’s communication systems and to provide significant equipment upgrades to firefighters.
“Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect the public and these funds will help strengthen their safety and those they serve in the community. We are pleased these federal funds will help upgrade equipment and communication systems to help speed response time,” said the members of the Congressional delegation in a joint statement.
The Warwick Fire Department will use their funds in radio communications equipment upgrades.
The Harrisville Fire Department will upgrade self-contained breathing apparatus units and the thermal imaging cameras that they use to reach fire victims quickly.
The Cranston Fire Department will install infrastructure upgrades such as fire alarm systems.
