COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Coventry family endured a terrifying ordeal when four armed, masked men entered their home while they were asleep and tied them up.
Police responded to Hill Farm Camp Road at 12:11 a.m. Friday to investigate a report of an armed home invasion.
The victims described them as wearing black clothes with ski masks and gloves. They also said the four men were armed.
Coventry police said the intruders tied up the family of three; a husband, wife and their 13-year-old daughter.
A woman told Eyewitness News her brother and his family are quite shaken.
“They’re distraught, very nervous.”
The man’s sister said after about half an hour, the four armed intruders left. The suspects had the right house, but the wrong people.
“They’re a mess. They’re a mess,” continued the woman. “They tied them up. They had guns. My brother had a gun pointed at his head.”
Neighbors said they think they know what went wrong.
“That house has been changing hands for a lot lately. It’s changed hands for at least ten years,” said Rachel Tessier, a woman who lives nearby. “There was a bunch of kids there before.”
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Police are now investigating who lived there before.
