COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) - A Cranston police dog who went missing early Friday morning after getting sick has been found safe miles away from his handler's Coventry home.

His handler, Officer Greg Bruno, said Bosco had awoken around 1 a.m. and started getting sick.

Bruno rushed Bosco outside. There, Bruno said Bosco went into a seizure.

Bosco stared running and Bruno gave chase, but without shoes, Bruno said he couldn't go very far.

Bruno, along with members of the Cranston Police Department and canine units from other departments, went in search of the dog. He was found late Friday morning by the Lake Mishnock Fire Department in West Greenwich.

Bruno took Bosco to a veterinarian to be evaluated.

Bosco has helped make several large drug arrests, including one about a month ago in which Cranston police found $300,000 worth of drugs. Other agencies, including the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, have made use of Bosco's talents as well.
