CRANSTON, RI (WPRI) - A meeting was held in Cranston Wednesday night, where more than two dozen residents listened to proposals on how the city plans to stop flooding along the Pawtuxet and Pocasset Rivers.
The city has been awarded $1.5 million in stimulus money to buy land and put flood controls in place.
The rivers routinely flood during big storms, causing damage to homes, businesses and roads.
Richard Martin has lived on Fletcher Avenue for the past 42 years and has been dealing with flooding problems since day one.
“I’ve dealt with this from the day we closed on our house," Martin said. "We closed on our house, my wife went over to measure the windows and guess what? Fletcher Avenue was flooded. It should have happened the day before, but that’s the way it goes.”
