WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – The judge ended Thursday’s court session in the murder trial against Tony Gonzalez early, to give lawyers time to review previously undiscovered files.

The state has called 14 witnesses so far in the murder trial, with four more to go.

The case so far has been filled with emotional testimonies, and family forced to relive the tragic death of 23-year-old Carl Cunningham.

Key evidence by the state so far has included two eyewitnesses, one of whom was Tony Gonzalez’ ex-girlfriend and pointed to Gonzalez as the shooter in court.

A chaotic 911 call the night of the murder has also played a role in the case.

A forensics expert testified that the murder weapon, though it has never been found, was a 9 millimeter handgun.  The defendant is believed to have owned a 9 millimeter handgun, but the gun has not been proven to be one in the same.

A driver testified saying he dropped Gonzalez off at a home that looked like the murder scene around the same time that the murder happened.

The defense has been questioning the credibility of some of those witnesses.

The trial is set to continue at 9:30 on Friday morning.
