RI murder suspect due in court Friday

Coventry teen arrested as fugitive in Connecticut

CLINTON, Conn. (WPRI) - A Coventry teen arrested in Connecticut this week, could soon return to Rhode Island to face murder charges.

18-year-old Travis Garcia is accused of killing 32-year-old Jeannine Garcia in Providence Sunday morning.  The two are not related.

The suspect was later that day, when he was spotted driving the victim's car in Clinton, Connecticut.

Now the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office tells us Travis Garcia will be arraigned Friday in New Haven on charges of being a fugitive from justice.  But Connecticut prosecutors will drop their charges, if Garcia agrees to waive extradition and return to Rhode Island.

If that happens, Garcia could be arraigned on murder charges in Providence as early as Monday.

In addition to the murder charge, he is also wanted for alleged probation and bail violations.  And the Attorney General's office tells us he also failed to appear in court for a sexual assault charge in Kent County.
