Holiday wrapping event helping charity

Donations go to women in need

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - A special event is helping out a local charity this holiday season.

Volunteers are helping to wrap your gifts for a donation. Eyewitness News was at the Barnes and Noble store on Bald Hill Road in Warwick Sunday.

The Humanists of Rhode Island were there wrapping holiday gifts.

All money raised will go to the Women's Center of Rhode Island. The organization provides shelter and help to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Event organizers say the donations raised will help the women there who otherwise wouldn't get a little something special for the holidays.

"I thought helping people in a women's shelter would be a good idea. I got that idea from a friend of mine who was living in a women's shelter and she just remembers the holidays being a bleak time because people would always think about the children, not the moms, so I just thought it would be a nice thing to do," said Tangie Miner, Humanists of RI volunteer.

"The way it works is that anyone can come in. They can get their gift wrapped. If they want to leave a donation they can do that. If they don't want to, they don't have to... or if they want to make a donation and not get a gift wrapped they can do that too," added Steve Ahlquist, Humanists of RI volunteer.

If you want to get your holiday gifts wrapped, the group will be at Barnes and Noble on Bald Hill Road in Warwick again next Sunday.
