WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) –A large crowd gathered together on Sunday at West Warwick High School for an annual fundraiser to honor a local fallen Marine.

Sgt. Brian St. Germain was 22 years old when he was killed in Iraq six years ago and now his friends and family want to honor him by bettering the lives of young people.

The Sgt. Brian St. Germain Foundation held this fundraiser to try and raise money to replace the West Warwick High School’s outdoor track, which when put in was measured incorrectly and could never be used for an official meet.

St. Germain was an all-state track athlete and friends say he always wanted to repair the track.

A special service dog will also be trained in his memory and will go to a disabled Marine in Lincoln.

The Sgt. Brian St. Germain Foundation has raised about a quarter of the funding needed to fix the track.
