CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- A group of National Guard soldiers is returning to Rhode Island Friday after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.
Members of C Company, 1/143rd Infantry deployed last November to handle security for provincial reconstruction teams in the country; about 130 soldiers made the trip.
The last members of the unit will be coming home Friday, although the time and place of their return has not yet been finalized.
1st Battalion, 14rd Infantry is an Airborne unit made up of paratroopers from Rhode Island, Alaska and Texas. C Company is a part of the Rhode Island Army National Guard and is based out of the Fogarty Armory in East Greenwich.
