CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Zaccagnini's Pastries is turning off the oven for the last time.
This coming weekend, the Zaccagninis will be closing their 65-year-old business on Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston -- with Joseph Zaccagnini and his wife Donna deciding it's time to hang up their aprons.
"I held it off as long as I could," Joseph told Eyewitness News on Tuesday. "But I'm 72. It's about time."
Customers are heartbroken that their friends are calling it quits -- and taking their favorite delicacies with them.
"They have the best chocolate cream pie," said Howard Chadwick. "I'm going to have to find somewhere else to go. Or start baking!" he added with a laugh.
He added the Zaccagninis deserve a healthy retirement.
Joseph Zaccagnini admitted there's plenty to miss about the job he's wrapping up, including the people.
All is not completely lost. Deluise Bakery of Chalkstone Avenue in Providence has purchased the location, so baked goods will be remaining at the location.
