CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A Cranston toddler was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital after getting caught in cross-fire while riding inside a vehicle.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Cranston Police responded to the intersection of Cranston Street and Webster Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Police said shots were fired and that one round struck a vehicle’s window, showering a two year old girl with glass.

The father was driving and he and his daughter both received minor scratches from the broken glass.

The driver went straight to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment.

According to the police, two people were exchanging gunfire on the street when the passing vehicle was struck.

A nearby gas station and residence were also caught in the cross-fire and sustained some damage.

On Thursday, customers  at the gas station reflected on the ongoing violence.

“Every time I wake up, every time I go to bed, I’m worried about my kid’s future. I’m worried about my kind winding up dead. I don’t want my kid to be shot,” said Steve Ethier, a Providence resident.

And for Robert Adorno, this kind of incident brings reminds him of painful memory.

“I’ve got a niece; she got shot in the spine. The bullet just went into the car, caught her in the back, and she’s paralyzed the rest of her life,” said Adorno, a Providence resident.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Cranston Police Department Detective Division.
