CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- Just days after Cranston's superintendant banned all parent-child events, the town's School Committee is looking to bring them back.

All gender-specific events such as father-daughter and mother-son dances were canceled in the school district earlier this week. Many residents, including the mayor, spoke out against the decision , though officials say they'll need a policy change in order to reinstate the events.

The Providence Journal reports that the school committee has drafted a resolution asking the General Assembly to amend a law to allow for such events.

The committee is expected to vote on the resolution behind closed doors next Monday.
