New mortgage option offered in RI

Program designed to help more residents buy homes

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island leaders are highlighting new mortgage options aimed at helping more residents become homeowners.

Governor Lincoln Chafee and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung were attending an event Thursday to showcase the new home loan programs recently launched by Rhode Island Housing .

Earlier this year, the agency began offering a new mortgage program for non-first-time home buyers and a new type of loan with lower monthly payments for qualified for qualified first-time home buyers.

Thursday's event was held at the residence of a Cranston couple who used one of the new programs to purchase their home.
