Library holds Newtown 'snowflake drive'

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) -- Cranston's public library is taking part in a "snowflake drive" for the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Paper snowflakes made this week in the library's children's department will be sent to Connecticut and used as decorations in a new school building where Sandy Hook students will return after the Christmas break. A gunman killed 20 children and six adults in a shooting at Sandy Hook on Dec. 14.

The project is sponsored by the Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association. The Cranston library says making and sending the snowflakes is a "small act of comfort."

Snowflakes made at home are also being accepted at the library until next Thursday
