Cranston, R.I. (WPRI) - A late night house fire on Bay View Avenue in Cranston is under investigation. Flames broke out around 10:30 p.m.
Crews were able to put the fire out quickly, because the home was vacant while it was undergoing renovation.
"The fire had quite a bit of headway prior to our arrival, they had flames venting on both sides of the structure itself," said Chief Bill McKenna of the Cranston Fire Department.
But the home did sustain heavy damage.
The state fire marshals' office is assisting in the investigation.
There's no word on if the fire was suspicious.
