Man attempts to rob bank in Cranston

Man passes teller a note inside supermarket bank

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Cranston police are investigating an attempted robbery at the Citizen's Bank branch inside the Stop & Shop on Atwood Avenue.

Investigators say around 7 p.m. Thursday, the suspect approached the teller and passed her a note the read "this is a robbery".

According to police, the teller had a hard time reading the note. She then told the suspect the branch was closed and pulled the security screen door down over her window.

The suspect then left the store without any money and headed towards the parking lot.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall, with a medium build, a thin mustache, wearing a black and yellow winter jacket and a Boston Red Sox Baseball Cap with a winter cap beneath with ear flaps. He was also wearing some type of latex gloves with yellow tips.

The suspect did not say if he was carrying a weapon and no weapon was shown.

No one was injured during the incident.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Cranston Police Department.
