CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Days after an inmate escaped from the Adult Correctional Institutions, the prison is getting ready to implement a new system to increase security.
The Department of Corrections is meeting Tuesday to plan the installation of an iris-detection system, according to the Providence Journal. The technology will scan inmates' eyes to verify their identity.
Department of Corrections Director A.T. Wall said the plan was in the works long before Nayquan Gadson, 21, managed to get out of the ACI last Tuesday by posing as another prisoner.
As of Monday night, Gadson was still on the loose. The prisoner who swapped places with him, Tarnue Segbeyan, 22, now faces charges of aiding and abetting the escape of a prisoner -- instead of returning to life on the outside.
