Teacher arrested on child porn charges

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) - A teacher at the William Davies Career and Technical School in Lincoln was arrested on Tuesday on possession of child pornography.

William Gorry, 53 of Red Oak Drive in Coventry was arrested after state and local police analyzed his computer, and discovered child pornography.

Gorry is married with three children, and is the chairman of the English department and coordinator of the debate club. However, following his arrest he was placed on administrative leave.

“We actually came home to a bunch of detective cars outside, and we watched him get taken out in handcuffs,” said Gorry’s neighbor, Lisa Siconio.

According to the legal counselor for Davies, Vincent Ragosta, Gorry had developed a relationship with a 16 year old female student. The school released the following statement:

“His behavior towards this student caused other adults within the school to question his relationship. After an internal school investigation, it was clear there was a sexual relationship between the teacher and student.”

Following the investigation the school contacted state police, who then obtained and executed a search warrant. State police seized child pornography off of his computer. It’s possible the pornography may be of another Davies student.

“It is surprising because they are very nice people…a very, very nice family so it’s very surprising, and knowing he’s a school teacher too, so it’s tough,” said Siconio.

Gorry is being charged with one count of possession of child pornography. He was released on $10,000 personal recognizance, and is due back in court on May 3.

He has been ordered to stay away from his computer and children under 18, other than his own. A woman at the Gorry house said she had no comment.
