RI's 1st car charging station unveiled

Green energy station is first of its kind in RI

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - If you live in Rhode Island , and own a hybrid-electric car, filling your tank just got easier!

On Friday, Cardi's Furniture along with Arpin Renewable Energy unveiled the first electric charging station in the Ocean State. Its located at the Cardi's Furniture in West Warwick.

"When you google a charging station, we're it. So, that's a good thing. It's good to be part of it and we're glad to see it move forward." said Ron Cardi of Cardi's Furniture.

Cardis and Arpin are working together on the non profit, "Project Get Ready Rhode Island." The goal is to get 10,000 plug in- electric vehicles on the road by 2015.

Peter Arpin, of Arpin Renewable Energy says today is just one of many steps toward the future.

"We are working to transform transportation. As we develop the auto re-charging there's potential jobs for Rhode Island as well, a whole new industry." said Arpin.

There are plans in the works to install additional electric charging stations around Rhode Island during in the fall of 2010.
