WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Authorities rescue nearly three dozen Chihuahuas from deplorable conditions inside a Warwick home Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators removed the dogs from a home located at 128 John Street in the Oakland Beach section of the city.
Neighbors say they heard barking at all hours.
"Just barking all the time, it's non-stop. It's a lot of little dogs," said Matt DelSesto.
Those living in the area say they were surprised to learn about the foul conditions inside the residence.
"I didn't know anything about the hoarding or how filthy it was because I don't really associate with them."
Eyewitness News has learned that nine of the dogs are being held at the Warwick Animal Shelter.
The remaining 26 dogs have been placed at shelters across the state.
All the dogs will eventually be put up for adoption.
No word on if the homeowners are facing any charges.
