WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - A state of emergency has been declared in West Warwick, due to flooding.
Officials made the announcement on Monday evening as flooding concerns continue to grow. Several homes in West Warwick have been evacuated,because of rising waters from the Pawtuxet River.
Police said flooding had forced evacuations on Providence Street, River Street, Begonia Street, Industrial Lane, and East Street. The East Street Bridge between Warwick and West Warwick is closed.
Fire officials said they had to use a boat to remove a baby from a flooded apartment building on Industrial Lane. Everyone else in the building was able to walk out on their own.
Meteorologist Michelle Muscatello said the Pawtuxet River set a new flood record on Monday, and was expected to keep rising. Several other roads in Warwick and Cranston are flooded, according to officials.
