Most of the shopping center still closed

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Target at the Warwick Mall is back in business.

The 100,000 square-foot store reopened Sunday after being closed for months because of the historic floods . It has been remodeled, and features a new produce section and an expanded beauty department.

"We had a line outside this morning," said Manager Dave Crenca. "People are glad we're back."

Several feet of water from the Pawtuxet River flooded the Warwick Mall at the end of March , forcing it to close. A handful of businesses have reopened since then, thought Target is the first major anchor store to be back in business. Owners hope to have the food court and main concourse back open by early August , though the mall may not totally reopen until March of next year.

Many businesses along Route 2 have suffered without the draw of the Warwick Mall. Crenca said he was also concerned about Target reopening without the usual Mall traffic.

Still, customers said Sunday they were thrilled Target was back.

"I love this place," said Jason Shealey. "I'm glad that it's open again."
