WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - The cities of Warwick and Cranston are considering a plan to merge several of their services to save money.
Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung said Monday that they had met several times to discuss the proposal. It would involve the two cities sharing services like fire dispatch, transportation, animal control, as well as library, senior, and information technology services.
Avedisian and Fung said the plan would save their cities hundreds of thousands of dollars. They also said there would not be widespread layoffs.
The logistics of the consolidation were still being worked out, Mayor Avedisian said. It could go into effect on July 1st, the start of the next fiscal year.
