WEST WARWICK, RI (WPRI) - Rhode Island State Police are investigating the controversial primary race between West Warwick Senator Stephen Alves and Michael Pinga.
Troopers went door-to-door at DeAngelis Manor Thursday night, asking residents if they voted in the Democratic primary race, if they knew about the controversy and about their voting experience.
Troopers returned to the complex on Friday as well, however, State Police would not comment about the investigation's focus.
Pinga beat Alves by 17 votes and the Board of Elections certified the results after two separate recounts.
Alves is challenging the outcome, claiming Republicans voted in the Democratic primary.
His appeal for a new election is scheduled to go back before the Rhode Island Supreme Court Oct. 23.
