PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP/WPRI) -- The U.S. Marines who run the Toys for Tots program in Rhode Island say the need is great this holiday season with a combination of high unemployment and a slow economy limiting charitable giving.

The annual program gives thousands of toys to needy children.

The group has collected toys at vacant space in the Pawtucket visitor center and plans to hold a news conference  there on Tuesday.

It's reminding families who would like to receive toys that the deadline to register is Dec. 5.

Meanwhile, beginning November 26 through December 14, bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Eyewitness News studios at 25 Catamore Blvd in East Providence, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Brought to you by WPRI 12, FOX Providence, Cardi's Furniture and the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
