NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – The Department of Transportation says the “Wickford Wintertime Wednesdays” program that ended on Wednesday was a huge success.

The state was offering a free round trip from the Wickford station to Providence every Wednesday.

The DOT says the number of people taking advantage of the promotion grew each week and about 800 vouchers were issued last week at the station that opened last April.

The goal was to get more people to take the train to work.
