WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) - Westerly residents endure heavy winds and high surf as Hurricane Earl passes by Southern New England.
Reporter Bob Wilson from WTNH in Connecticut, WPRI's sister station, headed to Westerly to check out the situation.
Wilson reported swimmers were hitting the water at Misquamicut Beach despite warnings to stay out of the water and a strong undertoe presence.
One local homeowner told Eyewitness News that despite Earl being one of the more mild storms he's seen, he still decided to board up his home's windows.
Officials are urging Rhode Island residents to stay out of the water due to potentially dangerous conditions this weekend.
