Dolphin spotted in Westerly dies

No word on what caused the dolphin to die

WESTERLY, RI (WPRI) - A dolphin spotted swimming in the water near the Weekapaug Inn in Westerly Monday has died.

Officials from Mystic Aquarium and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management returned to the scene Tuesday to collect the dolphin.

On Monday, marine experts said the dolphin was a common dolphin that appeared to be lost, but on its way back to the open ocean.

The cause of death is still unknown.
