BLOCK ISLAND, R.I. (WPRI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a pair of boaters stranded on a sinking vessel.

Officials say they received a distress call around 3:30 p.m. Saturday for a boat taking on water about three miles northwest of Block Island.

The two men were taken to Point Judith where they were checked out by medical crews, but they were uninjured.

Authorities say the boat remains adrift, but poses no threat of pollution. Plans to salvage it are in the works.
