KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) -- Hundreds of University of Rhode Island students, faculty and staff are preparing to walk several miles this weekend to raise awareness and money for suicide prevention.
The event is part of the "Out of the Darkness Community Walk" taking place in more than 250 areas around the country. The initiative involves 3- and 5-mile walks and is part of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The University of Rhode Island walk is set for Sunday afternoon, beginning with activities inside the Memorial Ballroom at the Kingston campus.
The walk will follow most of the main roads surrounding the campus.
