SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) -- The University of Rhode Island is changing several road names in Kingston in an effort to make campus navigation easier.
The university's Master Plan Review Committee approved the changes, which are set to take effect Wednesday.
Heathman Road be renamed Butterfield Road, and which will now extend from Barlow Circle all the Way to Flagg Road.
Baird Hill Road is now called Campus Avenue, which will now run from Upper College Road to Butterfield Road.
Lastly, Quarry Road will extend from its current end point in Fraternity Circle to Campus Avenue, which will now run behind the new Hillside Hall, which is currently seeing delays in construction.
"We have worked hard to simplify the road system as the Kingston Campus has evolved with new buildings, gate installations and re-routed and newly-built roads," said Director of Campus Planning and Design Thomas Frisbie-Fulton in a statement.
As a result of the changes and the upcoming construction of the new chemistry building, new addresses will be issued to several buildings on campus:
Maps of the new campus layout will be available Sept. 4 at Parking Services, located at 44 Lower College Road.
