SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - The University of Rhode Island has raised more than $14,000 for a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate from students, faculty and staff.
The money raised for the South County Habitat during last year's fundraising campaign is in support of its construction of four homes adjacent to the university's campus in South Kingstown. The homes are on Old North Road.
The university says it will present a check to the group on Saturday during URI's basketball game against Temple.
The university community raised funds at a walk-a-thon, homecoming and a gingerbread house competition. Future fundraising campaigns for Habitat are planned.
Habitat for Humanity builds homes in partnership with local individuals who need affordable housing.
