SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Students and faculty at the University of Rhode Island have set up an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street protest group and plan to erect a tent on a campus quad as a symbol of their efforts.

Mark Farnell, a student who has been involved with Occupy Providence, says Occupy URI has had two organizational meetings so far.

A "teach-in" is scheduled for later this month and a rally is scheduled for March with Occupy Rhode Island Campuses.

Occupy Providence dismantled its overnight encampment at a park in downtown Providence last month after the city met its demand for a homeless day center.

The Providence group, which is still active, has been trying to expand Occupy's reach throughout Rhode Island and among students.
