WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) -- A slightly revised name of a Rhode Island microbrewery has helped settle a trademark dispute.
The Westerly Sun reports that Alan and Jennifer Brinton changed the name to Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island from Grey Sail Brewing, which was too similar to Full Sail Brewing Co. of Hood River, Ore.
The Westerly business opened in November 2011 and filed a federal lawsuit against Full Sail Brewing Co. after the Oregon business claimed trademark infringement. Grey Sail initially sought a court ruling declaring it had not infringed on Full Sail's legal rights.
By adding Rhode Island to the name, Brinton said the company is identifying with its home state while also ending the trademark argument.
Irene Firmat, founder of Full Sail Brewing Co., said she is relieved the dispute has been settled.
