Guard prepares two units for deployment

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Two ceremonies held in honor of hundreds of National Guardsmen was held Saturday as two units prepared for deployment.

The ceremonies were held at the Army Aviation Support Facility at the Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown.

140 members of the 1/126th Aviation Battalion were honored at an earlier ceremony Saturday morning and about 130 soldiers from the 1/143rd Infantry Airborne were honored at a later ceremony in the afternoon.

The 1/126th Aviation Battalion have been ordered to Kuwait, Iraq to provide general support aviation while the 1/143rd Infantry will assist with reconstruction security missions in Afghanistan.
