CHARLESTOWN, RI (WPRI) - A rehabilitated harp seal has been released back into the ocean.

The seal, who was rescued on Moonstone Beach in South Kingstown on February 13, was named Valentine.

The one year old male harp seal was found with several infected wounds on his back, possibly from a shark attack.

Mystic Aquarium's animal rescue team nursed the seal back to health.

Valentine was released at the Charlestown Breachway at Charlestown Town Beach.

Harp Seals are commonly found in New England waters as they travel down from Canada during the winter months to feed on fish.

They then travel back up to colder waters in March, April or early May.
