Warwick man killed hunting in Exeter

Shot while at Arcadia Management Area

EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) - The man who was shot while hunting in Exeter late Wednesday morning has died from his injuries, State Police confirmed.

The call came in shortly after 11 a.m. to Austin Farm Rd. - which is right near the Arcadia Management Area.

State police said Donald H. Mallette, 45, of Warwick was hunting in a group of four people when he was shot by another hunter. No one else was hurt.

Mallette was rushed to Kent Hospital with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. A deputy chief with the Exeter Fire Department said Mallette was shot in the stomch.

The other hunters who were with him were taken to State Police barracks in Hope Valley to give statements.

The state Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office are assisting state police in the investigation.
