NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A new $8.3 million air traffic control tower is ready for action at the Rhode Island Air National Guard's Quonset base.

The tower is being officially dedicated on Friday afternoon by Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressmen Jim Langevin and David Cicilline.

State National Guard Maj. Gen. Kevin McBride will join them for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 143rd Airlift Wing's new control tower.

The facility will help maintain military and civilian air traffic at the Quonset State Airport.

Reed, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped lead efforts to get the federal funding to design and build the replacement tower.
